2. What is your teaching philosophy and methods used to implement such a philosophy?
A.) My teaching philosophy is to foster learning by helping each child make connections in their daily interactions at school. I use individualized instruction as well as group learning every day in class.
3. How does it make you feel to have such an honor as Teacher of the Year?
A.) I feel really proud that my colleagues have chosen me as Teacher of the Year because I feel like every teacher I work with is extremely good at what they do, and for them to recognize me is an honor. I am privileged to be part of the team at Mannford Early Childhood Center.
4. What is it that you most hope to bring to your students?
A.) I hope that as pre-k teacher, I can instill the love of school and learning in each of my students. I hope they leave each year with the skills they need to succeed in the rest of their school years.
5. Give an example of a project or activity that your students participated in that supports your philosophy.
A.) 5. Each day, we learn our weekly lessons in whole group activities with singing, read alouds, videos, etc.. We then will break up into small groups and individualize the lessons to meet each students needs. This way, all students are introduced to new concepts and then can work at their own level to master them.
6. What is the main challenge that you face in teaching? What actions do you take to overcome it?
A.) Some challenges are parental involvement, big class sizes, and occasional lack of resources. When parents can’t be as involved as they need to be, I can always find volunteers to come into our class and help with one on one teaching, small group learning, or special projects. Volunteers are also a big help in breaking up into groups when I have a large class and several projects going on.
7. Describe what is your favorite part of teaching and your lease favorite.
A.) My favorite part of teaching is definitely seeing that light bulb come on when a student has learned something new. Being in pre-k, I really see the students learn so much from the beginning of the year to the end. Every day is rewarding because I know I will get to see the students grow and be excited at what they are discovering.
