MECC
The ECC Fundraiser BINGO night and silent auction was a great success! At least 20 winners went home with prize packages of over $250. Silent auction winners took home OSU & OU autographed footballs, handmade wooden vases, a wreath, a quilt and numerous valuable gifts. The fundraiser brought in around $4,300 which will be used for teacher and student supplies and materials. Thanks to everyone for their support!
PreK and Kindergarten students are learning about Fire Safety during the first two weeks of October. Students are discussing stop, drop and roll, 911, family meeting place, fire fighter gear and what to do if your house is on fire! The Mannford Fire Fighters are bringing a fire truck and visiting us on October 9th!
PreK has noticed the changes outside with the arrival of fall. They are having a PreK Pumpkin Patch with the help of their awesome parents. Activities will include a hayride, games, cookie decorating, face painting and picking out a pumpkin.
Kindergarten is learning about the life cycle of pumpkins and doing pumpkin activities. In Math they are working on numbers and shapes and coordinating the unit with the book, Spookley, the Square Pumpkin. Kinder will end the month with a unit about monsters and feelings, based on the book, Go Away, Big Green Monster!
Kindergarten will be taking a field trip and having a picnic at the Sand Springs Pumpkin Patch Festival on October 22. Activities will include picnic, mazes, petting station, games, inflatables and pumpkins!
MES
In October, first grade will be learning about the Mannford Community. We will take pictures of places we see during our community walk. Students will create a project about Mannford with the pictures taken. In math, we are learning to count pennies, nickels, and dimes as well as solve story problems, adding and subtracting, and identify and extend patterns. In reading we are continuing to work on sight words and reading fluency.
Thanks to our wonderful PTO, second grade was able to start our dinosaur unit with a dinosaur dig! The students all loved it and were excited to begin their research. They’ve been using our iPad minis to gather information about their dinosaurs and create a presentation. There is also a Dinosaur Museum in our hall that everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy some of our other creations. Parent/Teacher Conference night would be a great time for parents to check out our museum.
It’s an exciting time to be a third grader! Students checked out a biography from the library, researched their person, and then used the information they learned to create a trading card. Students will trade their cards with other classmates the Tuesday before Fall Break. Students have also started learning
cursive letters and their multiplication facts. We are looking forward to our good behavior reward to celebrate awesome behavior as well!
Did you know that the Scholastic Book Fair is in town? It’s at the elementary library, open 8-3:30 October 5-9, and 8-7 October 12-13 during conferences. We serve grades PK-5. Stop by and “check us out!”
1st -3rd grades will be demonstrating, through the game Toppleball, the ability to strike a ball, using the correct grip and side orientation, catch an object thrown at various distances, and demonstrate mature form of throwing during PE this month. Movement concepts of body awareness and spatial awareness, manipulative skills of throwing and catching, changing speed and direction, evasive skills, and the difference between offense/defense will be assessed while playing flag football. Dribbling a ball, support, lift and control body weight while practicing body alignment, passing, shooting, guarding, and offense/defense will be taught during a unit on basketball as well.
All elementary art students have been working hard on their Square 1 Art projects! These projects always look amazing, and parents look forward to all the fantastic products they can purchase with their child’s artwork printed right on the product! The best part is that the products will arrive in time to give them as Christmas gifts!
Third grade students will perform a concert in December. First and Second grade concerts will be in the spring. Notes will be sent home soon with details about the third grade concert. Every student will get one free concert CD and booklet about a month before his/her concert. Contact Mrs. Heape with any questions.
A big thank you goes out to our local McDonald’s! The evening of September 17 was our very first “McTeacher” night. MES was able to raise over $2,600 as a result of McDonald’s help and the generosity of community to come to eat and have a pie with us that night. Thank you McDonald’s and thank you Mannford!!
MUES
4th graders are doing an animal studies unit observing African Dwarf Frogs. They will be learning the life cycle of frogs. Eventually, they will be taking them home as pets. They also look forward to observing Fiddler Crabs.
Mrs. Sellers’ class is reading the book Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper. This story is about an 11 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy. She cannot walk, talk, or write. Although, she finds a way to communicate and her classmates soon learn she is very intelligent! The students in 5th grade are loving this novel and are learning that we are all not so different after all.
Can you make a PB&J? Can you follow written directions? Mr. Porter’s Language Arts class recently learned that writing directions is much harder than following them. Each class spent two days writing directions on how to make a PB&J sandwich. They also wrote directions on how to put on a “Silly Halloween Spider Ring”.
5th grade Social Studies students at the Upper Elementary made shields to show details about explorers that came to the “New World”.
25 4th and 5th grade students who have shown quality character over the first 6 weeks of school were recognized as Star Students on October 2nd and were treated to lunch at Pizza Hut with Mr. Norman on October 6th.
MMS
The MMS Softball team ended the year with a record of 13-2 and won the Tulsa Seven Conference Tournament, making them Back to Back Conference Champions!
The MMS Girls Cross Country Team finished the season with a Tulsa Seven Conference Championship, making them 3-time Conference Champions!
80 students, their parents and teachers enjoyed breakfast and fellowship at the first TRRFCC Pirate breakfast on October 1st. The TRRFCC pirate breakfast honors students who have displayed acts of Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Congrats to all the October TRRFCC Pirates!
As of Thursday, October 8th, MMS students have received 137 good referrals from the teachers, recognizing them for outstanding character and work in the classroom!

Savana, Benny, and their proud parents joined Mr. Wright as “Guests of Honor” at the October Mannford Chamber of Commerce meeting on Thursday October 1st. Congratulation to both of our excellent, teacher nominated, students of the month. We are super proud of you (and your parents) for attending the Chamber meeting at Winn’s Sports Café and Grill as our guests.

Teachers, Brandi Webster & Raylene Kelley have been selected to attend a Business and Financial Responsibility Seminar at the University of Chicago, October 9-11. This intensive, 3 day learning experience is designed to help educators deepen their understanding of financial literacy and develop business-related skills that they can seamlessly integrate into our MHS curriculum. Congratulations to you both!
