First of all, as area students return to the classrooms and those big yellow schools buses once again take to the roads, your friends at the Grand River Dam Authority remind you to please drive safely.

Of course, along with a new school year come new educational opportunities as students settle in to learn lessons in math, science, history and other subjects. As the school year moves along, there may also be chances for students to see those subjects at work in every day jobs like those completed by Team GRDA. In fact, GRDA is proud to support Oklahoma students through efforts like Third Graders Go To Work, the GRDA Electric Express Program, electric safety demonstrations, tours of GRDA facilities and others.

The GRDA Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley has hosted thousands of students for field trips and special education programs since it first opened its doors in April 2010. Lessons in lake and water safety, water quality, ecosystems, environmental stewardship and hydroelectricity have all been learned by visiting students over the years.

Meanwhile, the GRDA Electric Express has rolled through several Oklahoma school classrooms. A program designed to teach students about the basics of electricity, the Express can be modified to fit different age groups, from elementary to junior high.

Together, all these education efforts help GRDA fulfill an important part of its mission to be a resource for the people of the state of Oklahoma. For more information on the Electric Express programs, or other ways GRDA can be available to make a presentation to your group, email the GRDA Corporate Communications Department’s Justin Alberty ([email protected]) or Shannon Randolph ([email protected]), or call (918) 256 5545.
