Acting on a tip from the US Humane Society, Pawnee County deputies served a felony arrest warrant on Garry Williams of Terlton at his property while also in search of evidence related to raising roosters for cock fighting. Rob Baker, a neighbor of Williams’ had spoken to PCSO Undersheriff Monty Johnson in the past about the noise created from the cock fighting, but this time. he had evidence that,

he told Johnson proved Williams was fighting roosters. He presented him video footage and photos as that proof. He told Johnson that Williams had moved next to him in July of last year and that he had even confronted Williams about the cockfighting after it had begun. He further stated he told his new neighbor that he believed cockfighting was illegal. In response, Williams stated that it was not ilegal on Indian lands, according to the affidavit. On Feb. 5th Baker showed the video to Johnson which clearly showed Williams ‘instigating and encouraging the roosters to fight’, according to the affidavit. One scene shows Williams holding one rooster while on the ground in front of another one enticing the two to fight. Another scene reveals him instigating sparring matches, which is done as a tecnique to teach the roosters to fight. Deputies discovered the roosters tethered to shelters for each rooster in Williams’ yard. The hens, however, were free to roam, the affidavit reads. Williams remains in custody in the Pawnee County jail on $25,000 bond. Cockfighting is a violation of State Statue Title 21: The Oklahoma Ban on Cockfighting Act, also known as State Question 687, was on the November 5, 2002 ballot in Oklahoma as an initiated state statute, where it was approved. The measure made it illegal to hold or encourage a cockfight, to be a spectator at a cockfight and to keep birds for fighting purposes.
