MECC
Pre-K will be going to the Oklahoma Wondertorium in Stillwater for their field trip. A play to learn environment, the children’s museum hosts 14 exhibits. The hands-on activities promote inquiry-based exploration. Students will enjoy a picnic sack lunch at the museum before returning back to school. Students will be sharing which was their favorite activity.
Pre-K have learned so much this year. They have worked their way from Aa to Zz and are enjoying literacy with simple sight words! They have made portfolios that they will share with their families and continue to work on their self-control! PreK watched and learned about the butterfly life cycle and then released their butterflies on the MECC playground.
PreK will be visiting the Kindergarten classrooms next week and get a glimpse of what they will be doing next year…..when they are all grown up!
Kindergarteners have been studying about the Ocean and its inhabitants. As their field trip, they went to the Oklahoma (Jenks) Aquarium. They experienced all the seeing, touching and hearing their little minds could hold! After a picnic sack lunch at the aquarium, the students returned home tired and with many stories to share. Just ask them!
They have also been studying about insects and plants. In Mrs. Good’s and Mrs. Lytle’s class they have planted beans in baggies and watched them sprout and fireflies were made with glow sticks!
Kindergarten is celebrating the ABC Countdown during the last 26 days of school. Everyday highlighted a letter of the alphabet and involved activities during the day that started with that letter. They will be taking a tour of the lower elementary building and 1st grade this year to help with the transition to big 1st grade! Kindergarten will finish the month with testing and making mother’s day gifts.
MES
Third graders are excited to be finished with their state tests! They worked very hard and tried their best. They will celebrate their hard work with a trip to Chandler Park on the 13th. After the reading test, students learned all about the history and importance of oil and natural gas in Oklahoma. They did hands-on activities and lessons through curriculum and training provided to teachers by the OERB. As part of the curriculum, OERB pays for students and teachers to attend the Oklahoma Science Museum in Oklahoma City! Students will enjoy this learning experience on May 17th. We are looking forward to our annual spelling bee, our last good behavior trip, and lots of fun things before the final days of the school year. Thank you, parents, for making it such a successful school year. We couldn’t have done it without your support!
PE: Students learned the basics of Badminton. Pirate Field Day will be May 6th. Walking club is finishing up and those 3rd and 4th graders who participated will be receiving a t-shirt. We will also be learning how to play disc golf. Have a wonderful summer! See you in August.
First grade is finishing up our animal unit. Mr. McAlister from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife visited and taught us about wild animals of Oklahoma. We will conclude our animal unit with a trip to the Tulsa Zoo. We have finished our Phonics program and will be learning about the parts of speech.

Please stop by on Monday, May 9th, 2016, between 5 – 7 p.m., in the Lower Elementary Cafeteria and see what our 1st through 5th grade students have been creating! I’m pretty sure it will knock your socks off!

Life cycles can be fun when you get to experience it firsthand. Each second grader cared for their own caterpillar, watched as they formed a chrysalis, and are now enjoying butterflies! We have an exciting end of the year field trip, to Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum, coming up on May 17th. This has been a great year! Third grade, we are sending you a fantastic group of kids
Lower Elementary Talent Show will be on May 19th from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 in the elementary cafeteria. If your child made the talent show I will send a note home on May 9th or 10th. The 8th-grade students have been reading a true story in their Language Arts class called The Boy Who Carried Bricks by Alton Carter. It is an amazing, inspiring story about how this man overcame the odds of growing up with abuse and neglect. The 8th graders and their teacher carried bricks to feel what Mr. Carter felt physically and then wrote about that experience. They discussed we all carry certain loads in our lives and shared what the “bricks” might represent to them.
